Moab
Community Cycles
Moab, the biking mecca that it is, lacks accessibility to cycling for many people due to its being centered around technical mountain biking and prohibitively expensive bikes and service. We’ve heard too many stories from folks who don’t necessarily feel welcome in the bike shops, can’t afford a bike, or feel like cycling in any form is not for them.
Moab Community Cycles identified the gap in bike offerings in this community. We saw that we needed to create a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and affordable space for everyone that didn’t fit the traditional Moab bike mold, while also recycling the bikes and parts that already exist in the city. Riding bikes for recreation and transportation on our trails provide so many benefits from empowerment of self reliance, to physical health, to time immersed in nature, to independence from vehicles, to traffic reduction and so much more.

Evan Smiley
I moved to Moab in 2017 for just one season with CFI and never left. Seasonal life paved the way for stability and a full time job with the County Trails Department, running the trail crew on all of our non-motorized trails. On the side, I run Moab Community Cycles, providing affordable bikes and maintenance to the people of Moab. The community is really what has kept me here all these years keeps me happy sinking my roots in deeper. Though, the multiple lifetimes worth of exploration and recreational opportunities are a nice cherry on top.
My favorite parts about Moab are the smells of spring (Cliffrose and Mahonia of course), the never-ending guessing game of "why is that rock like that?", increasing my lifetime arch count, the silly bike community, being inspired by all the creative and passionate folk, and finding solitude amongst the slickrock and junipers.
